Farmworker Reality Tour - Oct. 14, 2018

This tour will allow participants to better understand the difficult conditions that farmworkers must contend with in order to survive on the Central Coast. We will visit three locations on the tour, including an agroecological farm, the Buena Vista Migrant Camp and the dilapidated rented home of a farmworker that will serve us a delicious, traditional dinner.

During the tour we will hear stories about the factors that compel undocumented immigrants from Mexico to make harrowing, unsafe border crossings.  We will hear about the challenges to children's education among farmworkers that live in the state's migrant camps, and we will learn about the life of a brave single Mom farmworker who is raising four children on her own.

If you ever wondered about the lives of farmworkers that are responsible for the U.S. supply of vegetables, fruits and nuts, the tour and encounters will be invaluable and informative.
